I am a diplomat and public service officer from Thailand and I’m currently pursuing a master of engaging Asia at the Australian National University (ANU).

I’m grateful to have received the Australian government scholarship in 2022, also known as the Australia Awards, which has given me incredible opportunities to further my studies.

A famously sunny country with a fast-advancing economy and a well-recognised university system, Australia is understandably among the top study destinations in the world for international students.

Australia has the third highest number of international students in the world, behind only the UK and the US – pretty impressive for a nation of just 24 million people.

Successful applicants will receive their tuition paid in full until the minimum number of points for their degrees are completed. My name is Anneshwa Dey and I am from a small town in India called Ranchi. I grew up in a joint family in which my uncle and father own a telecommunications business together.

That is where I was first introduced to electronics and circuit boards. I vaguely remember that we used to assemble the LED moving light in our home, and I was always fascinated by the magic of the small integrated chip that goes into the boards.

After finishing my master’s degree, I worked in the World Bank office in Jakarta. From then, I knew my passion was to work for international development organisations.

The Australian government will be extending the Temporary Graduate Work visa (subclass 485) for more than 400 bachelor’s and master’s programmes and all PhD programmes from July 2023.

This means undergraduates on any of these 400 programmes will now be able to stay and work in Australia for four years, rather than two years. Master’s students studying within the selected disciplines will be able to stay for five years, rather than three.
