Ahead of the 97th edition of the Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars, we’ve taken a look at where the 2025 nominees went to university to prep themselves for careers in the film industry.

Although some of the talent did not attend university, choosing instead to dive straight into work, there are 92 universities, theatre schools and specialist schools from all over the world on this year’s list.

What jobs can you get with an archaeology degree? 

Once you graduate from an archaeology degree, the careers available to you will depend on the level of education you have completed. The two common careers for archaeologists are those based at universities and those who work at cultural resource management (CRM) companies. Many graduates will also go on to further study. 

What can you do with a history degree? 

Students who complete a history degree gain skills in analysing events that have passed but also the ability to use this information for the future of society. These problem-solving skills are transferable across several industries that focus on current societies, especially in business, politics and academics. 

What can you do with an English literature degree? 

A degree in English literature provides graduates with many transferable skills including communication, the ability to work analytically and complete research, and the skills to work independently. Although teaching is one of the most popular career routes with an English degree, there are actually many possibilities for work. 

Since the end of April, I have finished all my assessments for the year. What freedom, what joy. Added to the recent warm weather in London, life is pretty good right now.

However, the anxiety of job hunting is still nagging me.

I recently attended my first careers seminar. It was fairly small forum, with around 15 companies. Armed with a CV completed just days before, I strolled into the event venue. Clad in black and hair tied back, I did my best to look professional and put together. 

Summer internships or study abroad programmes are an expectation at Harvard University. Every year, the university connects students with hundreds of organisations and schemes to encourage us to have a productive three months during the summer. Conversations about summer plans start as early as Christmas and often by February many students have a placement secured. I was not one of those students.

The London Venture Crawl, held in March 2018, took 200 students from nine London universities to visit a number of businesses and entrepreneurial ventures to learn about what it takes to start a business.
