You don’t have to be an architecture student (or indeed know anything about architecture) to appreciate the beauty of a well-designed or unusual university building. Although university architecture may bring to mind ancient cloisters and dimly lit old libraries, campuses around the world are home to some of the most unique, modern buildings on the planet.

The US secretary of state has announced an exemption to Covid-19 travel restrictions for international students starting from 1 August.

The national interest exemptions (NIEs) will now be extended to international students from all countries with valid F-1 and M-1 visas intending to begin or continue an academic programme commencing 1 August 2021 or later.

Though so much information for most people’s studies is now online, you can’t beat the feeling of sanctuary and calm you get from a good library. Whether you use them for research, reading or just to escape the world for a few hours, libraries are an essential part of the university experience.

For the million foreign students who study here in America, it has been a long, testing four years.

From threatening to deport those whose classes were moved online, to banning students from (mostly) poor countries from obtaining the necessary four-year student visa, to cracking down on Chinese students and researchers, the recently ejected president Donald Trump spent much of his time trying to push international students out of his country.
