Being in lockdown has been a difficult situation for everyone, however I have found it additionally difficult because I have also had to complete a dissertation project. Like many other students, I found myself in a new place where I needed to handle both the Covid-19 pandemic and university stress.

This is why it is vital to talk about the well-being of students, especially those in their final year who are writing up their dissertation.

I studied at Loughborough University in London from September 2015 to December 2016.

When I first arrived I could smell new carpets and see glossy reflections on the recently polished glass walls. An ambitious road map of the city’s emerging hub could be seen in the ongoing construction work in Here East, east London, where the campus was located. It is important to note that currently the TEF analyses only undergraduate teaching.

When I first toured the campus at James Madison University as a prospective freshman, I immediately felt that it was warm and welcoming. With friendly tour guides who told me I just had to try the buffalo mash from D-Hall and a beautiful campus with purple-and-gold flowers bursting on every corner, I felt like this was the place for me.

Twitter can sometimes be an absolute minefield of different opinions, angry comments and just downright rudeness. But every now and then a Twitter thread appears that is helpful and insightful and sparks thoughtful discussion and advice.

One such thread was by Dr Sara Althari, who recently received her PhD from the University of Oxford making her part of just a small handful of Saudi women who have ever achieved this.
