Warwick, Norwich, Swansea, Bath and Keele are the five cheapest UK cities to study in according to new research by the credit report website TotallyMoney.

The free credit report and comparison specialists took the UK’s 50 top universities, according to The Sunday Times Good University Guide, and ranked them in order from most affordable to least.

ShanghaiRanking have released the results of their 2018 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, which shows the best performing universities across 54 different subjects. 

In total, more than 4,000 universities were ranked in five different fields: the natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences. This is the second year ShanghaiRanking have published the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, but the consultancy has been ranking international universities since 2003, and has ranked universities by academic fields since 2007.

Spain, South Africa and Singapore have some of the cheapest weekly rates for student accommodation in the world, according to new research. 

Accommodation search engine Student.com found that the lowest rents for students around the world were in Albacete (Spain), Johannesburg (South Africa) and Singapore. In fact, four Spanish cities (Albacete, Murcia, Granada and Alcalá de Henares) are among the top 10 cheapest for weekly rents. 

Three US cities feature in the top 10 (Tallahassee, Athens GA and Columbia MO). Derby in the UK rounds out the top 10.

The rising rate of student mental health problems is a global issue and needs to be tackled with a "whole university approach", according to a new study.

The Global Student Accommodation Group (GSA), analysed more than 10,000 pages of evidence from more than 280 studies from the UK, Germany, Spain and Australia to understand how student well-being has evolved over the last decade.

Loughborough University has been voted the best university campus in the UK, in new research by Student Crowd. 

In a survey of 7,849 students, the Midlands university topped the list for having the best campus in the country. The campuses were rated by students on their social, academic and environmental strengths. These included campus/facilities, clubs and societies, students union, careers service and internet/wifi.

UK mental health charity Student Minds and Canadian organisation TeenMentalHealth.org have collaborated to create a series of resources to combat the mental health issues that can be associated with the transition to university. 

The two resources are freely available to students and educators at universities and schools and can be found here.

HSBC has launched a mobile banking app and WeChat-based payment service for Chinese students studying in the UK to pay their tuition fees to many major universities around the world.  

The International Education Payment Service allows renminbi (RMB) to be exchanged into five currencies: the British pound, US dollar, Canadian dollar, Australian dollar and Hong Kong dollar. 

Customers can convert RMB on the system using HSBC China's mobile app or WeChat banking, without visiting a bank branch or filling in paper applications.

The most popular undergraduate degrees among female students in the UK in 2016/17 were those allied to medicine, while the most popular subjects for male students were business and administrative studies. 

Course data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency were analysed by training course provider The Knowledge Academy to determine the most and least popular undergraduate courses in the UK in 2016/17.
