I’m currently studying a postgraduate degree in humanities at the University of Manchester in the UK. Before that, I was an undergraduate student at Western University in Canada. I ended up doing five years of undergraduate studies because I decided to do a six-month exchange at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland during my fourth year.

The royal family is a well-known symbol of the UK. In the past, royals did not traditionally go to university, instead taking up royal duties after completing their schooling. However, these days young members of the British royal family are more likely to head to university before juggling jobs alongside royal engagements and charity work.

The phrase “experience of a lifetime” is often overused, and risks bordering on being cliché. It is, however, the perfect way to describe my time at the Global Undergraduate Awards (GUA) in Dublin, Ireland at the start of November this year.
I had the honour and privilege of being invited to GUA’s 2023 Summit as the global winner in the classical studies and archaeology category. My initial reason for submitting to the awards was not actually to win a prize.
I have been at the RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences for the past two years and it has been the experience of a lifetime. Moving abroad was challenging and scary to say the least, but I often look back on it as the decision that shaped my entire life.
The Global Undergraduate Awards aim to champion undergraduate research from around the world. Undergraduate students are able to submit their research across a range of 25 academic disciplines, and a winner from each category is selected by a panel of international academics and industry leaders.
Every year the winners and highly commended students are invited to attend a summit in Dublin, Ireland, with the chance to network with fellow winners and hear keynote speeches from academics, activists and business leaders.
