Indian students encouraged to apply for scholarships in France

By seeta.bhardwa@…, 13 March, 2017

Applications to the Charpak Master’s Scholarships 2017 are now open, the Embassy of France in India has announced.

The scholarship supports students from India looking to pursue a one or two–year master’s degree in France across a number of fields of study. The deadline for application submission is Thursday 11 May 2017.

This year, the Embassy of France has increased the number of scholarships available to students to 500. Last year 370 students received scholarships.

This increase is part of a programme to welcome 10,000 Indian students into France by 2020. This has been developed by the Embassy of France through Institut Français en Inde.

Students are selected based on their academic excellence and the consistency and quality of their statement of purpose. Knowledge of French is considered an asset but is not mandatory.

The application process has been simplified this year through the launch of an online platform. The online portal holds a database of scholars, avoids duplicate applications, uploads relevant documents and allows students to view the status of their application.

The Charpak programme offers three types of scholarships at bachelor’s and master’s levels:  the Research Internship programme, the Exchange programme and the Master’s programme. These can all be applied to through the online portal.

Scholarship winners will receive medical insurance, social security coverage, visa fee waivers and affordable housing solutions in France.

In 2016, France hosted more than 4,200 Indian students in French institutions, with 370 of those as scholarships owners. Some 120 of those received Charpak Master's Scholarships.
