International Ph.D. Program for Translational Science

At our program, we strive to create a rich interdisciplinary learning experience by combining expertise from a variety of fields, including molecular/cancer biology, animal disease models, aging research, proteomics, and structural biology. Our focus is on discovering clinical biomarkers in key fields such as oncology, neuroscience, reproductive medicine, and regenerative medicine. Our students will also have the opportunities to take part in multi-disciplinary courses and engage in preclinical and clinical research projects led by principal investigators and physicians at TMU-affiliated hospitals.

We also offer a Master's Program providing a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the field of translational medicine

Overview

The International Ph.D. Program for Translational Science at TMU was created to address the growing global demand for interdisciplinary expertise and ultimately accelerate research innovations into clinical applications. Our program offers students the opportunity to learn laboratory techniques, participate in preclinical animal experiments, and engage in clinical trials. We welcome students from diverse academic backgrounds, including biology, medicine, pharmacy, as well as medical doctors, to join us in this pursuit.

Course details

Our program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience that combines theoretical knowledge with practical training. Students will have the opportunity to learn essential laboratory techniques and engage in preclinical animal experiments, as well as participate in clinical trials. Our faculty members, with diverse backgrounds in biostatistics, cancer research, animal model, and drug design, are devoted to guiding and mentoring students to become future independent scientists who can navigate the terrain of both basic and clinical research.

As part of our program, we also provide annual opportunities for students to visit industrial sectors and biomedical institutions, offering real-world experiences in translational science. By gaining exposure to how research institutes and biotech companies connect in Taiwan, students will gain a valuable appreciation of how the research landscape operates in the real world. For more information on our program's curriculum and offerings, please visit https://pts.tmu.edu.tw/curriculum/.

Entry requirements

We welcome aspiring scholars to our program, including medical doctors and graduates from diverse fields such as biology, medicine, and pharmacy. To be eligible, applicants must hold a master's degree from universities recognized by Taiwan's Ministry of Education and provide proof of English proficiency. Acceptable tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, or other official tests. However, applicants who have completed their tertiary education entirely in English-speaking countries are exempt from submitting English proficiency scores. For detailed information on admission requirements and processes, please visit our website at https://pts.tmu.edu.tw/admission-prospectus/.

Career outcomes

Our program provides students with a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary training course and translational research skills that equip them with the knowledge and experience necessary for a wide range of career opportunities in academia and biotech industries.

Graduates of our program have gone on to successful careers as professors, principal investigators, and researchers in top-tier universities, research institutes, and biotechnology companies. Alternatively, they may choose to pursue careers in the industry, including roles as managers in clinical research organization (CRO), consultants for patent application and intellectual property, or as founders of their own companies
