A well-rounded university experience would not be possible without good facilities. Whether these are sports facilities, the bar and shops on campus or the library facilities, students assess these when looking for prospective universities. Participants in the Student Experience Survey were asked to provide a rating between “strongly agree” and “strongly disagree” as to whether their university has:

  • High-quality facilities
  • Centralised / convenient facilities
  • Cheap shop / bar / amenities
  • Good library and library opening hours
  • Good sports facilities

Answers to these questions were then pulled together to produce a score for facilities. Loughborough University topped the list, cementing its reputation as one of the best sporting universities in the UK. However, Loughborough student Luke Starr says that the fantastic sporting facilities should not overshadow the university’s students’ union and all the opportunities that it provides. “A lot of students agree that the SU really is the beating heart of life here, and it certainly wouldn’t be the same without it,” he added in a blog.
