Wilfred Elegba obtained his PhD in plant science at ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) through support of the Swiss Government Excellence scholarship award.
He is a research scientist with the Biotechnology and Nuclear Agriculture Research Institute (BNARI) in Ghana. His research goals are targeted at enhancing food production through the improvement of key traits such as yield, disease resistance and nutritional quality in food and tree crops.
Wilfred is a co-founder of ‘EquipSent”, an initiative at ETH Zurich which redistributes scientific equipment from high-income countries to partner institutions in low-income countries. He is an alumni ambassador for the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) in Ghana. He is passionate about mentoring young minds that are keen on addressing pressing challenges in their local communities. He lectures part-time at the Graduate School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences at the University of Ghana.
