Students will soon be able to take their IELTS tests at home

Students looking to take the IELTS Academic test will be able to take it online from early 2022.

IELTS Online will allow students to take their IELTS English language tests in their own home or in their chosen location.

The IELTS Online test will cover listening, reading, writing and speaking – the same as the current IELTS test. The online test will include a real-time face-to-face speaking test with an IELTS examiner.

Christine Nuttall, managing director of IELTS at Cambridge Assessment English, said that this will give test takers “greater flexibility”. It will also mean “faster results for test takers, as validated results will be available as soon as three days after the test”.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the IELTS Indicator was introduced as a temporary measure to allow students to be able to take their English language tests from home in the face of lockdowns, travel restrictions and closures of test centres.

The IELTS Online test is a permanent test that will allow students the same flexibility.

The IELTS is one of the most widely recognised English language tests and many universities around the world require non-native speakers of English to take the test as part of their application.

The test is particularly popular among international students looking to study in the UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
