With budgets squeezed and competition to attract international students rising, institutions must ensure they provide value to those arriving from overseas. This means offering these students a rich and fulfilling learning experience but also making them feel welcome and able to fully participate in university life.

For foreign students this may mean overcoming language barriers, cultural differences and homesickness and navigating new educational norms. In this hour-long webinar, we speak to academic experts in the UK and France to find out what policies and actions make a difference in supporting international student success before, during and after their studies.

Our panellists are:

Allan Atlee, interim pro vice-chancellor for education and students at the University of the Arts London, a post he took up this year after working as dean of academic strategy at Central Saint Martins, UAL since 2023.

Joanna Daaboul, director of international relations and assistant professor at Université de Technologie de Compiègne, and a member of the Roberval laboratory.

Helen Galbraith, senior pro vice-chancellor and chief operating officer at the University of Chester.

Felipe Koch, assistant professor and practitioner in futures studies and societal innovation at University of Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC). He is also vice-dean and head of graduate studies at UPEC’s AEI International School, where he coordinates international relations with Portugal and Brazil.
