By seeta.bhardwa@…, 13 December, 2017

If you aspire to one day appear on the Forbes list of highest earners in the world, going to Harvard University or studying engineering or business might be your best bet.

We've analysed where the 200 richest people on the Forbes 2017 list of billionaires attended university and have come up with some interesting results. For example, a significant percentage of the the richest people in the world, either didn't go to university or dropped out. Many of those who didn't got to university altogether went straight into work, with some building their business empires from a very early age.

While Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In terms of courses that seem to lead to a billionaire status, courses in engineering and business led the way by a mile. Economics and maths was another popular choice among the billionaires.

Only two of the billionaires in the top 200 studied English or literature and there were very few who studied a humanities subject.

We have also taken into account both undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications, as many of the billionaires went on to obtain master's and even PhD qualifications. However we have no included those that have dropped out of either their undergraduate or postgraduate courses.
