Our broad and principled approach to computer science will give you a thorough grounding in theory as well as practical skills, helping you to solve real-world problems. Learn in our modern, self-contained building houses a range of computer labs stocked with the latest technologies. The popular Computer Science study and social pod is open 24/7 for group and individual study and events.

95% of our students go on to work and/or study 15 months after this course (Graduate Outcomes survey 2017/18). We hold an Athena SWAN bronze award for our commitment to gender equality. In the 2020 National Student Survey, our learning facilities were first amongst Russell Group universities.

Course details

You will study systems at different levels of abstraction, including digital hardware architectures, low level programming, operating systems, intelligent systems, compilers and high level languages. You’ll learn to design user-centred systems, recognise the power of data, and build intelligent systems that learn from data. Add a placement year with all our courses so that you can gain real world and valuable career skills that make you stand out from other graduates. We have a dedicated placement team that will prepare you for your year in industry.

Our courses are designed with our Industrial Advisory Board, so you’ll be well placed to adapt to the workplace. This course is accredited by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council.

 

Entry requirements

You’ll need three A-levels at AAA including Mathematics. We accept International Baccalaureate at 36 points overall, including 6 in Mathematics at Higher Level.

You may be eligible for an alternative offer as part of our widening participation or contextual offer programmes.

Career outcomes

Most of our graduates go into the field of IT/Computing, followed by Financial Services, some undertake postgraduate study and others go straight into industry. Career destinations include BAe Systems, Mars Inc, Cancer Research UK, Morgan Stanley, G Research, Thales, the Civil Service, M&G Investments, Ubisoft, Rapita Systems, Sky, BT, Raspberry Pi, IBM, JP Morgan, Hut Group and Automaton Games.
