Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

The Data Science and Artificial Intelligence MSc has been designed to equip the students with the ability to research, propose and implement creative solutions to practical problems with the domain of data science and artificial intelligence (AI). Throughout your studies you will have the opportunity to delve into the theories and practices of maths and statistics, software development, databases and information systems.

This online master’s programme is curated for individuals with a non-computing background, who wish to build on their existing undergraduate degree. As a student, you will have the opportunity to learn from experts in data science and AI who will help you gain specialist knowledge in an exciting area of computer science.

Throughout the programme you will demonstrate how to gather and analyse information to make data-driven decisions, develop technical and professional skills to prepare you for roles in data science and AI, and grow as you learn while building a strong professional network. 

A UK Scholarship of 10% is available for students residing in the United Kingdom. This scholarship is available for our October 2023 intake for all full master’s awards.

Overview

Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has major application in many different sectors, including IT, healthcare, government agencies and technology. Organisations across these sectors, both commercial and non-commercial, are experiencing a significant recruitment challenge. This online and part-time programme will allow you to upskill your non-computing background by acquiring specialist knowledge and technical skills that have immediate application within the workplace.

Course details

This programme consists of the following modules.

You are required to complete 180 credits to achieve a full Master of Science (MSc), 120 credits to achieve the postgraduate diploma (PGDip), and 60 credits to achieve the postgraduate certificate (PGCert).

  • Software Development in Practice (15 credits)   
  • Databases and Information Systems (15 credits)
  • Elective modules: choose three:
    • Reasoning and Intelligent Systems (15 credits)
    • Machine Learning in Practice (15 credits)
    • Multi-Agent Systems (15 credits)
    • Robotics (15 credits)
    • Deep Learning (15 credits)
    • Natural Language Processing and Understanding (15 credits)
  • Research Methods in Computer Science (15 credits)       
  • Computer Science Capstone Project (60 credits)
Entry requirements

All applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If you want to discuss your previous qualifications and experience before applying, please contact our admissions team.

Applicants should possess either: 
•    A degree in a subject other than Computer Science or IT, equivalent to a 2:2 UK bachelor’s degree, coupled with two years’ experience in employment; or
•    Professional work experience and/or other prior qualifications, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

All applicants must provide evidence that they have an English language ability equivalent to an IELTS (academic) score of 6.5.

If you don’t have an IELTS or equivalent certificate, you can take our free online English test to assess your proficiency. You don’t need to prove your English ability if you are a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree in, any of these countries.

There are a range of opportunities within this fast-growing field for those trained in data science and artificial intelligence – and you will also be prepared for roles in other computer science settings. You may also choose to apply your new learnings to interdisciplinary roles related to your undergraduate degree or professional background. Suitable roles may include Data Analyst, Data Scientist, Database Manager, Machine Learning Practitioner and IT Consultant.
