Master Program in School of Nutrition and Health Sciences

The Master’s program in School of Nutrition and Health Sciences was established in 1995. Our mission is to train our students to integrate theoretical and practical skills and knowledge into new exploration in the modern era of nutrition from bench to bed and from data to policy and beyond. We have aggressively expanded international collaboration in teaching and research with the world’s top universities, to provide better learning environment and opportunity for our students toward globalization.

Our international students publish, on average, two scientific articles during their statues and many of them get promoted after returning to their home countries. More than 75% of Indonesia students from our master’s & Ph.D. programs have got a faculty position at top universities in their country after graduation.

Overview

"Life counts on health, and health counts on nutrition." 

TMU School of Nutrition and Health Sciences strives to train professional specialists in nutrition related fields, equipping our graduates with nutrition knowledge that can be applied to public health promotion.

We sincerely welcome students with laboratory experience and a passion for research in the field of nutrition to join our program.

Course details

Our curriculum combines core courses offered by the College of Nutrition and special courses offered by the Program. We train students to help them develop the following abilities:

1. To enrich professional knowledge in nutrition and life sciences. Improving knowledge in nutrition and health and the application of these knowledge in the professional setting.

2. To familiarize with the advancement of nutrition-related sciences. Strengthening understanding of areas including nutrients and inflammatory/immune response, molecular nutrition, fatty acids and mental function, metabolism and obesity, nutritional epidemiology, clinical nutrition, evaluation of functional food (academia-industrial collaboration).

3. To conduct research combining nutrition, life sciences and clinical studies. Designing and performing inter-disciplinary research projects in the clinical setting.

4. To pursue innovative thinking with global visions. Embracing creativity and diversity throughout their studies to keep abreast of the latest development of  research into nutrition and establish an international perspective.

Entry requirements

Those with a background in nutrition or food and laboratory experience are encouraged to apply. On English language requirement, applicants must satisfy one of the following conditions: (1) Applicants should hold an English proficiency certificate at CEFR B2 or above, such as TOEFL iBT 71, TOFEL ITP 543, IELTS 5.5, or other equivalent tests. (2) Applicants who have had formal education or work experience in an Anglophone country may provide attendance records as proof of English proficiency. Career outcomes

TMU School of Nutrition has trained over 3,500 alumni for over four decades. Students graduating from the department have opportunities to work in the following positions.

  1. Research in the field of nutrition
    Working as nutrition specialists in prevention medicine, disease treatment and lifetime care, for example, research specialist or faculty in universities, etc.
  2. Food development
    Working in the food industry to research and develop a variety of health food and nutritional supplements, for example, health food consultants, health food research and development specialist, and food testing specialist.

3. Clinical specialty
     Working in healthcare as clinical dietitians in specialties, for example,  dietitian in hospital, dietitian in schools at all levels, dietitian in restaurant, sports nutritionist, staff in national health administration, etc.
