Overview

This is a 2-year full-time program that leads to the award of a Master of Science (MSc) degree upon completion. Students will receive hands-on training to tackle research challenges in biomedical engineering. We welcome motivated students from a wide range of backgrounds with passion for graduate-level research in areas related to biomedical engineering. Individuals interested in the techniques we employ or conducting groundbreaking research in biomedical engineering are encouraged to apply.

Course details

In their first year, GIBMTE students focus on core courses in biomedical materials and tissue engineering, which provide a fundamental understanding of the field and help to develop laboratory experimental skills. Courses in research ethics and thesis writing also ensure that students are equipped with the essential multidisciplinary academic skills required for success. Students also have access to a bi-weekly seminar series featuring experts from academia and industry who share their career development and research experience. In addition, industrial visits are organized every semester, providing students with an opportunity to learn about the latest industry trends.

In the second year, students shift their focus to research projects and the completion of a dissertation and publications. To further enrich the experience, international students also have the opportunity to attend free Mandarin classes held in the evenings

Entry requirements

Applicants should have a diploma of Bachelor degree accredited by Taiwan Ministry of Education (MoE) or students graduating in 2022 from MoE accredited Bachelor degree programs. Applicants should also meet the university’s language proficiency requirements.

Career outcomes

Biomedical materials are crucial to modern healthcare, playing an increasingly significant role in medical devices, implants, and therapies and treatments. At GIBMTE, students gain practical skills and research techniques in this field, learning to operate biomedical equipment and interpret papers. They have numerous opportunities to present their work, honing their presentation and public speaking skills. GIBMTE graduates become independent researchers with the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to solve clinical problems.

The success of GIBMTE graduates is evident in the varied job functions of the 2019-20 cohort. Many chose to pursue advanced studies, with 15% completing PhDs or post-doctoral positions. Others work in biotech companies (25%), academic careers (16%), or clinical/hospital roles (12%). Some graduates chose to serve in the military, while a smaller number found work in marketing.
